Brooklyn Art Library Sketchbook Project
Parents and young artists often ask me, besides social media, whether there is any safe and fun way to share their artworks. One of my favorite art projects is the Brooklyn Art Library’s Sketchbook Project. Before I became a full-time independent artist, I used to participate in the Sketchbook Project regularly. This is a super fun project - you order a sketchbook from the Sketchbook Project website. They will then mail you a sketchbook. You fill up the sketchbook at your own pace with any idea that comes to your mind and mediums you love. When the sketchbook complete, you mail your Sketchbook back to them, and they will put your sketchbook in the library to become part of the permanent book collections, which the public could check out! Whenever someone checks out your sketchbook, you will get an email notification, so you know your sketchbook is being read by a loving reader!
There is no judgment with what you put in the sketchbook. No one is going to judge your idea or the art style or the quality of the work. The love you put in the Sketchbook will be appreciated and shared.
When I was making this Sketchbook, I had so much fun experimenting with different ideas and techniques. I try to different style, some drawings work, while some are not too successful. But it’s OK. I get to explore and practice. When the sketchbook is filled up, it’s fun to look back and see what works and what doesn't work. The sketchbook becomes a record of my creative thought process.
